Akhand Sahib Path
Akhand Sahib Path, also known as continuous reading, is a devotional practice in Sikhism where the Guru Granth Sahib is read continuously, 24 hours a day, without interruption. It is a way to seek blessings, peace, and spiritual fulfillment. The path can be organized to celebrate special occasions, commemorate events, or fulfill personal prayers.
To organize an Akhand Sahib Path at Guru Nanak Darbar, there are a few essential requirements
- Cleanliness: The area where the path is conducted should be clean and well-maintained.
- Maintain Silence: Maintain a peaceful and serene atmosphere throughout the event.
- No Intoxication: Refrain from consuming alcohol or any intoxicants during the path.
- Family Representation: It is customary and highly encouraged that at least one member of the family or the individual who requested the Akhand Sahib Path be present at all times during the recitation of Guru Granth Sahib by Bhai ji. This presence ensures that the spiritual intention and commitment to the path are upheld.
- Serving Parshad: The same family member or individual responsible for the path’s request should also take the responsibility of serving “Parshad” to any person visiting the Gurdwara during the Akhand Sahib Path. “Parshad” is a sacred offering made from flour, sugar, and ghee, symbolizing blessings and communal unity. Serving “Parshad” with humility and devotion is a way to express gratitude and promote community bonding.
Participating in or organizing an Akhand Sahib Path is a deeply spiritual and communal experience in Sikhism. It is an opportunity to connect with the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib and seek blessings for personal and collective well-being.
